Rethinking Our Health Priorities

One comment I hear quite often is that “seeing a homeopath is expensive” and that consultation fees aren’t affordable.

But let’s pause and turn that idea around—how much do we spend without a second thought on a trip to the hairdresser, a manicure, or a new pair of trainers? The question really becomes: Where does your health sit on your list of priorities?

Choice Comes with Responsibility

We all have choices when it comes to our health. One option is to hand over full responsibility to doctors and the medical system, allowing them to guide and decide for us.

To be clear, conventional medicine absolutely has its place. Modern surgery, for instance, has made life-saving advances. Yet, despite these developments, chronic illness continues to rise. The typical response? More medication—sometimes multiple prescriptions—often given to counteract the side effects of earlier ones.

Iatrogenic disease, which refers to health problems caused by medical treatment itself, is far more common than many realise. You might be surprised at how often this occurs. In contrast, homeopathy has never been shown to cause harm.

Trust and Familiarity

I’ve noticed that some people I know happily and unquestioningly take prescribed drugs but hesitate when it comes to using herbs, supplements, or homeopathic remedies. Perhaps this comes down to familiarity—medications are part of their normal routine, while natural treatments feel unknown.

With the unfamiliar often comes hesitation. And to explore new approaches, we have to accept more personal responsibility for our own wellbeing.

A System That Sees the Body as Parts

Here in the UK, much of our healthcare system—and the pharmaceutical industry—operates in a way that focuses on treating individual symptoms. If you’re referred to hospital, you may see a gynaecologist, oncologist, rheumatologist, or endocrinologist, each looking at a specific part of the body.

This approach stems from an old philosophy (often linked to Descartes) that views the body like a machine, made up of separate components. But in practice, these specialists rarely communicate with one another, leaving no single person to “join the dots” and consider the whole picture.

Homeopathy Takes a Different View

Homeopathy sees the body—and the person living in it—as an interconnected, intelligent system. The body constantly works to maintain balance in all its processes, and symptoms are seen as signals of an underlying imbalance rather than isolated problems to be suppressed.

So, we have a choice:

  • Depend on medications that suppress symptoms without addressing the root cause.
  • Or choose an approach that aims to restore balance and resolve symptoms naturally.

What Would Better Health Mean for You?

Ask yourself:

  • What would it mean to feel truly well?
  • If you had more energy and less discomfort, how would your life change?
  • If your child no longer felt anxious about school, what difference would it make to your family?

These are the kinds of changes homeopathic care can help bring about. So, how much do you value your health—and the health of those you love?

Why do some people think seeing a homeopath is expensive?
Consultation fees are often compared with everyday costs like a haircut, manicure, or new trainers. When seen this way, investing in health through homeopathy may be more affordable than people first assume.
How does homeopathy differ from conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine often treats isolated symptoms and relies on multiple prescriptions, sometimes leading to side effects. Homeopathy instead aims to address the root cause and restore balance across the whole system.
Can homeopathy cause harm?
Unlike many conventional treatments, homeopathy has never been shown to cause harm. Remedies are non-toxic and chosen to stimulate the body’s own healing processes.
Why are people hesitant to try homeopathy?
For many, hesitation stems from unfamiliarity. Prescription drugs feel routine and trusted, while natural treatments like herbs, supplements, or homeopathy may feel less familiar.
What benefits can homeopathy bring to my life?
Homeopathy can support improved energy, emotional wellbeing, resilience, and relief from chronic symptoms. For families, it may ease stress and create a calmer, healthier home environment.
