Homeopathy for Panic Attacks: Gentle, Natural Support

Panic attacks can be overwhelming, sudden, and deeply unsettling. They can strike without warning, often stopping you in your tracks and leaving you feeling helpless.
You might feel completely fine one moment, only for a wave of intense symptoms to hit the next. These episodes may be triggered by reminders of past trauma or unresolved emotional stress—or they may appear with no obvious cause at all.
Common Symptoms of a Panic Attack
- Rapid heartbeat
- Tightness in the chest or choking feeling
- Nausea or stomach discomfort
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Sudden, intense fear
- Shortness of breath
- Sweating or clammy skin
- Feeling like you might die
- Disorientation or confusion
- Trembling or shaking
- Tingling, numbness, or “pins and needles” sensations
Why Consider Homeopathy?
Homeopathy offers a gentle, non-habit-forming approach to anxiety-related conditions, including panic attacks. Remedies aim to address the underlying imbalance rather than simply suppressing symptoms, without the side effects often associated with conventional medication.
While the remedies below may help during an acute panic episode, a consultation with a qualified homeopath is recommended for identifying and treating the root cause.
Homeopathic Remedies for Panic Attacks
Aconitum Napellus (Acon)
Best suited to panic that appears suddenly and intensely, often from nowhere. There is marked restlessness, agitation, and an overwhelming fear of dying. The person may look visibly terrified, with wide eyes and a rapid, pounding heartbeat.
Keynotes: Sudden onset, severe fear, rapid heartbeat, extreme agitation.
Argentum Nitricum (Arg-nit)
Ideal for anxiety that builds gradually, often linked to anticipation—such as public speaking or social events. Those needing this remedy may be hurried, prone to imagining worst-case scenarios, and sometimes develop digestive upset (including diarrhoea) from nervousness.
Keynotes: Anticipatory anxiety, hurried behaviour, stomach upset, expecting the worst.
Arsenicum Album (Ars)
Anxiety centres on health, safety, or the future, and is worse when alone—especially at night. Panic may bring great restlessness, pacing, and a desire for company. Chilly sensations and clammy sweating are common, and sips of water may help.
Keynotes: Fear about health or future, restless, chilly, seeks company.
Gelsemium Sempervirens (Gels)
Helpful for performance anxiety that leads to weakness and trembling, especially in the legs or hands. The anxiety can feel paralysing, creating a strong desire to withdraw. Often indicated for agoraphobia or fear of crowds.
Keynotes: Anxiety with trembling, weakness, fear of open spaces or crowds.
Kali Arsenicosum (Kali-ars)
Suited to people whose anxiety focuses on heart health, fearing they may have a heart attack. Worries are worse in the evening or at night, sometimes causing avoidance of bedtime. Chilly sensations are typical.
Keynotes: Anxiety about heart problems, worse at night, feels chilly.
Kali Phosphoricum (Kali-phos)
For those feeling mentally and physically exhausted from prolonged stress, overwork, or emotional strain. There may be fears of a nervous breakdown or a sense that something bad is imminent.
Keynotes: Anxiety with exhaustion, easily overwhelmed, nervous fatigue.
Phosphorus (Phos)
For sensitive, open individuals who absorb the emotional energy of others. Panic attacks may bring a fear of dying, and they feel worse when alone—seeking comfort through company, touch, and reassurance. Common fears include the dark, loud noises, storms, and being startled.
Keynotes: Fear of death, craves reassurance and touch, easily frightened.
Homeopathy can provide both short-term relief during an attack and deeper, long-term healing when remedies are carefully selected to match the whole person.
