Homeopathy for Anxiety

Feeling ….. Anxious …. Stressed …. Exam Revision Anxiety ….

Getting anxious for various situations is pretty normal for most of us. Homeopathy is not going to change your personality, but it can certainly reduce those sharp edges of extreme feelings.

The homeopathic medicines which we call ‘remedies’ are made from the natural world around us, they are safe for use without any side effects, they are non-addictive and usually the cheapest in the pharmacy. They are safe to use for all ages and stages of life including pregnant mums.

My top 5 favourite, regularly used homeopathic remedies for anxiety, worry, stress and especially ‘exam fever’ are :

Aconitum Napellus – my very top favourite remedy and if you are in doubt, just take a dose of this. I recommend this one in any sudden fearful and anxiety situation. It is about it happening quickly and sometimes may not have any logic to it – you just feel it. You tell yourself there is nothing wrong, but you just feel the anxiety. Use after a car accident or any kind of fall or sudden injury. It is about the shock you feel in that instant. Also great, but not always the case, for those that show the fear and panic in their faces. There is restlessness and the person keeps changing their sitting position. Sometimes a chain of bad thoughts start and you cannot shift it. You get relief from drinking cold water. This is my top remedy for panic attacks and especially when there are heart palpitations and sometimes the person has an extreme fear of death. If you have a panic attack, you take one straight away for prompt relief, without a shadow of a doubt.

Arsenic Album – anxiety with a feeling of chest constrictions, difficulty in breathing and lots of restlessness. This is great for someone you might label as a worrier. They will worry about the smaller daily things as well as the big things in life. If you particularly worry about health, the future and family members, you need this. If you worry about finances and facing poverty that remains in your mind and you cannot shift it, then you will do well to take this remedy. It is not a sudden feeling but something that is present quite a lot. When it builds up in your mind, take some of this remedy. There is restlessness and quite often trembling and cold sweats. Everything will feel worse at night.

Argentum Nitricum – this one is linked to anticipation. Anticipatory anxiety where you worry and get very anxious about something about to happen. This could be a speech or a family event. You are constantly thinking about the event, planning it all the time in your mind and cannot stop worrying about it. This does very well with the chances of stage fright. During the anxiety, this person can suffer from diarrhoea, a feeling of hurriedness, impatience with self and others and weakness in the legs. Once they are on stage, everything goes smoothly. This remedy is also great for the specific fear of height and high-rise buildings. They do not enjoy going on tall structures and if they are on the ground near them, there can be an intense anxiety and fear as if the buildings will fall on them.

Kali Phosphoricum – this remedy is for anxiety, nervousness and being fearful. The person will be a pessimist with negative thinking, and they tend to have excessive sensitivity mentally, emotionally and physically. They are sensitive. This remedy is recommended for certain types of fears especially when it impacts your life – fear of crowds, open spaces, of being alone and fear of death. All these may set off an anxiety attack. Slight noises, due to their sensitive nature, may also trigger anxiety.

Gelsemium Sempervirens – this one is my favourite Exam and Revision anxiety remedy. There is a feeling of brain fog, but you must revise, you feel tired and you worry, and it builds and builds into a lot of anxiety. There is a tendency to be irritable with the family trying to support you. This remedy is also great for making public appearances, social gatherings and the dread of having to deal with many different people. I am sure many politicians would do well with this remedy. There is more sadness and melancholy in this remedy. It is another one that does well in stage fright.

When and How to Use These Remedies?

As a self-prescriber, all of these can give great support to you. Take a dose of the remedy at potency 30C two to three times a day. Kali-phos as an exception can also be taken at potency 6X for prompt improvement. If the problem persists for more than a month, you may need a higher potency or a different type of dose, in which I case I would recommend consulting a professional Homeopath.

You can self-prescribe all of these Homeopathic Remedies with confidence, lose the fear!

Important: If anxiety is associated with some underlying existing medical condition like a heart complaint, thyroid issue, diabetes and others, it is advisable to seek the expert opinion of your health professional.

At all times, if it is an emergency, please go to your nearest emergency health care provider. The information given here does not replace emergency health care.

We have many remedies that do well with anxiety and if it is starting to affect you on a daily basis and has an impact on the relationships around you, I would urge you to seek professional homeopathic help, as it can help!
