Episode 96: Living on an Island with Mary Greensmith
Episode Description:
In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 Podcast, Mary Greensmith shares her personal journey of moving to a small island and building a self-sufficient life with a strong focus on natural living and homeopathy. From setting up vegetable gardens to working with the local community, Mary gives us a real glimpse into her new lifestyle and the many joys (and challenges!) it brings.
Settling into Island Life
Mary describes arriving on the island and the excitement of building a new life. Although not everyone shares her passion for natural living, she finds comfort in creating her own space. Community life on the island is close-knit but diverse, with people embracing a variety of lifestyles.
Building the Vegetable Garden
A major project for Mary has been transforming her overgrown garden into a productive vegetable patch. Thanks to a ready-made greenhouse, she’s already started seeds indoors while preparing outdoor beds.
Removing old box hedging proved a massive task, but she found help through the island’s buy-and-sell groups. The soil is rich and fertile, and Mary cleverly makes use of locally available compost from a green waste site, saving a fortune compared to mainland prices.
Challenges of Island Living
Life on a small island means dealing with logistical challenges, like waiting for ships to bring supplies and battling unpredictable weather. Building raised beds required creative solutions when wood deliveries were delayed, and setting up infrastructure like sheds requires planning approval and patience.
Connecting with Nature
Living outdoors and working in the garden brings Mary deep satisfaction. She also helps look after horses nearby and enjoys seeing her dog Lily thrive, happily running on sandy beaches and exploring the landscape. Island life has helped improve Lily’s health remarkably after previous joint problems.
History, Wildlife, and Community
Mary shares her excitement about the island’s rich history — from Roman settlements to WWII fortifications — and its unique wildlife, like the rare blonde hedgehogs.
She’s also found a supportive community of like-minded people who value self-sufficiency, organic gardening, and living close to nature.
Mary and her husband are excited about future plans, including building a shed, expanding their vegetable beds, and eventually keeping chickens. While they enjoy the independence island life offers, they are also looking forward to getting involved with the local community at their own pace.

Phenomenal, invaluable, Homeopathy 24/7podcasts are certainly worthwhile listening too.
Listening to these podcasts are an investment, in your natural health journey. I had my first experience with a remedy for a very troubling viral disease, the cure was almost instant, the second experience was in India, my Homeopath was Doctor from Germany, who became disillusioned with only allopathic medicine and studied Homeopathy, again within 1 minute time, my symptoms completely melted away. finding the right remedy ensured for me remarkable results. Highly recommend to give these podcasts a serious listen and explore it further.
