Episode 113: The Water Project in the Solomon Islands with Katie Emerson

Episode Description:

In this episode of Homeopathy 247, host Mary Greensmith welcomes homeopath Katie Emerson, who shares her exciting upcoming mission trip to the Solomon Islands. Together, they discuss what the Water Medicine Project is, how homeopathy will be shared, and the incredible impact this project could have.

What is the Water Medicine Project?

Katie explains that the Water Medicine Project brings homeopathy to remote communities in the Solomon Islands — a nation made up of about a thousand islands with limited access to healthcare. Working with the South Seas Evangelical Church, Katie and her team will train missionaries to use homeopathy to help their communities.

Why “Water Medicine”?

While it’s still traditional homeopathy, it’s called “Water Medicine” because remedies are prepared in water bottles for ease of use. Plus, to simplify teaching, each remedy is given a number. For example, Bryonia is referred to as “Remedy Number 9.” This system helps bridge the language gap since many locals speak Melanesian Pidgin rather than fluent English.

The Long History of Homeopathy in the Solomon Islands

Homeopathy has a fascinating 120-year history on the islands, starting with a Christian missionary, Dr. Northcote Deck, who brought it in the early 1900s. Several others continued the work over the decades, keeping homeopathy alive despite limited resources. Katie’s team is the first to return in years, thanks to COVID delays.

What the Trip Involves

Katie’s group will stay at the church’s base and teach local pastors how to recognize symptoms, choose remedies, and care for patients. They will also run live clinics, offering real-time demonstrations of how homeopathy works. Medicines will be provided in updated kits containing around 60 key remedies, mostly in 30C potency, perfect for treating common tropical illnesses and chronic conditions like diabetes.

Challenges and Excitement Ahead

From traveling on tiny planes to relying on daily-caught fish for meals, Katie is embracing the adventure. The goal is to make homeopathy accessible, empower communities, and revive a vital health tradition. Fundraising efforts are underway to support this life-changing mission, and Katie invites listeners to get involved by donating or spreading the word.
