Christmas is coming … how does this make you feel? For each of us, it must be very different. In the past my husband has always avoided Christmas … it wasn’t a time of joy and happiness for him growing up. For me, with brothers and sisters, it was a time for playing continuous board games. Now, however, I struggle with the commercialism of Christmas and I refuse to get entangled with gift competition.
But what about this year. After being away for a few years out of the country, my hopes of big reunions were met with distaste because of my vax status. Now our family get-togethers are becoming political and this is not what I signed up for. It leaves me with a feeling of despondency and also abandonment.
My husband however is excited this year about Christmas, so what is different for him. We have just moved into a new house and he is excited about having the space and time to cook and experiment. After living on a boat for 6 years, it is fun to watch someone getting excited about what he can cook in his oil-fired Rayburn.
But I know, not everyone has a husband who loves cooking or has a house where you can be warm and dry and free from political trauma …. So how do you feel about Christmas this year? Will you be able to enjoy time with loved ones or will you be faced with difficult situations that make you feel:
